NATAS MID-ATLANTIC ANNOUNCES NEW CATEGORIES, ENTRY DEADLINE AND NEW LOCATION FOR 2017 EMMY® AWARDS

PHILADELPHIA – The Mid-Atlantic Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS) today announced new categories and entry deadlines for the 35th Annual Mid-Atlantic EMMY® Awards. The Mid-Atlantic Chapter will add two new categories bringing the total number to 80. The new categories include:

  • Morning Newscast – Medium Markets (39 & Smaller) – For excellence in a regularly scheduled morning newscast.
  • Politics/Government- Program/Special – For excellence in coverage of political, civil, government issues or subject matter.

“While we have offered a Morning Newscast category for many years, the decision to tier the category into large and medium markets allows those markets to compete amongst themselves and creates a more level playing field for all,” said Michelle Bradsher-McHugh, NATAS Mid-Atlantic Chapter President and Associate Director of Drexel University’s Online Television Management Graduate Program. “The addition of a Politics/Government category was a clear necessity for an election year. We look forward to seeing the great content our stations choose to submit in both of these new categories.”

The NATAS Mid-Atlantic chapter entries are being accepted now through April 21, 2017, with an early entry discounted deadline of April 7, 2017. College entries are also being accepted through April 21. Nominees will be announced in August.

The 35rd Annual EMMY® Awards will be held on Saturday, September 9, 2017, at the Hershey Lodge located at 325 University Drive in Hershey, PA. The event will include a cocktail hour and auction to benefit NATAS scholarship programs, a sit-down dinner and the award presentations.
